Gluten-Free High Tea Dreams: My Day at Rose & Vanilla

Welcome back to my Gluten-Free Adventures! As someone who has been navigating life with coeliac disease for over a decade, I am constantly amazed by how far our community has come. Gone are the days of settling for “just a salad”, now there are entire restaurants dedicated to people like us. And one of my absolute favourites? Rose & Vanilla in Amsterdam.
This place is not just a café; it’s a story. The owners created Rose & Vanilla because their children have coeliac disease, and they wanted to craft food that was not only safe but downright delicious, no one feeling left out, no one compromising on flavour. Their ingredients are organic, sourced from biological farms and trusted producers, and they cater beautifully to both coeliacs and vegans.
Naturally, I couldn’t resist going back to try their high tea experience. (Pro tip: make a reservation, they sell out quickly, especially the soup). The atmosphere is what I call whimsical chic, think: cottagecore in the middle of the city. The doors open onto a small garden, the light filters in perfectly, and you instantly feel like you’re stepping into your own dreamy afternoon movie montage.
The Savoury Spread
The high tea kicks off with a generous savoury course, freshly baked seeded bread with two spreads (classic hummus and a slightly sweet beet hummus that I loved), a refreshing salad, and a bowl of soup. The soup had a little spicy kick, a fun surprise, though personally I’d prefer it served piping hot.
The Sweet Finale
Then comes the real magic: dessert. There was so much that I had to take some home (zero regrets). My favourites? The walnut brownie and their signature carrot cake (a must-try if you haven’t yet). The apple crumble was nice, but if you’re going to choose, I’d still say go for the brownie first.
The Verdict
Between the kind, knowledgeable staff who always ask about allergies, the wholesome organic ingredients, and the fairytale-like setting, this spot earns a strong 8/10 from me. It’s refreshing, filling, and honestly feels like a treat every single time.
If you’re looking for a dedicated gluten-free high tea in Amsterdam where you can sip an iced latte, enjoy a slow afternoon, and feel completely safe about cross-contamination, Rose & Vanilla is your place.
